Nails come in different sizes

I had this thought while my husband was talking to someone on the phone. I realized whether in listening to a good advise or trying to change, people are like nails. Nails come in different sizes. Some needs more hammering, while some just need a tap or two.

God hammers us with His word and discipline because He loves us. Sometimes, it takes a long time of hammering, sometimes it takes just a little effort - - that's when we are ready to listen and receive from Him or from people He sends to us.

I hope i am a short nail or maybe, a thumbtack. Just a little push and i'm set.

Benefit Yard Sale for Rob and Marcy Payne

Father's House Church organized this yard sale to help Rob and Marcy Payne, and i think other families in need (in Franklin area). It was rainy and gloomy at first, but nothing stopped the volunteers from working. Soon it became a very hot day, but it was sure fun and it is wonderful just to be part of it. If you want to know more about Rob and Marcy and how you can help, just visit this site http://www.everydayisprecious.com/home.html

power of encouragement

Today started out as an ordinary day until i had a customer named Ronda. My workplace is currently facing a competition thru a newly opened store. Ronda told me that she went to the other store just to compare us. She confessed that our service is a lot better than the other store (she thought we might want to know that - - and we do). I almost cry after hearing those words.

It made me want to excel more in my work. It may not be my dream job but, knowing that i am able to help people excites me.

Encouragement is something that i miss. I can't remember the last time someone encouraged me (aside from my husband).

When was the last time you have encouraged someone?

We went to Opry Mills, Nashville and watched the IMAX version of Kung Fu Panda. Oh, we love that movie! It was a perfect dinner.
July 9, i went to work as usual but, the day seemed so slow because it was raining hard in Spring Hill. After work, we went to Franklin for the Mid-week service. I love it - - it's just praise, worship and prayer. Talk about fresh encounter.
Then, on our way home we received a call that we have been waiting for - - my sister-in-law's water bag broke! Yehey! I was so excited to see the delivery because it was my first time. I was there from start to finish and finally on July 10, 4:54am Jordan Keith Howard was born. It was an AMAZING sight!!! And oh, i got the chance to cut the baby's umbilical cord too...

Our first official Valentines

It's our 1st Valentines together.
2005 - we haven't met yet
2006 - we were in school, but (long story)...
2007 - Keith was here in TN while I was in the Phils.
2008 - We're married and finally, together.

Interestingly, we actually had dinner with Pastor Michael Paderes in Nashville then, met some people from Bethel. The next day we drove to Smithville (to his parent's lakehouse) and spent the rest of the weekend together, of course, with Dora our baby dog. We ate dinner at our fave Mexican resto and discovered new and delicious dishes.
For a change, (and a wonderful surprise) Keith did the grocery shopping(while i sleep in), cooking and cleaning of dishes the whole Saturday. He prepared some sumptuous breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I am convinced God answered my prayer when i asked to marry someone who can cook well. :)
We watched 5 movies and did some four-wheeling too! It was a completely relaxing weekend. It actually made us more excited about having our own place in Lipa C...

the coffee OR the cup

Heard this story last Sunday service...

A professor hosted a small gathering for his former college students. He set different cups of coffee ranging from cheap paper cups to fancy china cups. As soon as his students came, he asked them to fix themselves their own cup of coffee. Little did the students know that they are being observed by the professor. When everyone has their own cup of coffee, the professor noticed that everyone chose the fancy looking cups.

Then he started the conversation by saying: Is it the coffee or the cup? Everyone of us wants a coffee -- a good tasting one, of course. Unconsciously, we try to reach a fancy-looking cup too! Then, we look at our cup and compare it to another 's cup. We know that the taste of the coffee stays the same no matter which cup we choose, but for some reason we always feel like someone got a better cup of coffee. What do we really want? Is it the coffee or the cup?

What does cup represent in your life? How about

Position of Blessing

Dora, our baby dog is in the peak of her obedience training. She don't get to eat our food unless she obeys the word "sit". Sometimes it takes 5 times to say the command "sit" before she actually execute it and then get her reward. I think that there are times she is too focused on the reward she can't concentrate on the command given her. She become impatient and thinks that she can short cut the process. However, in the end she learns that unless she obeys she will not be rewarded, whether it is a piece of bread or a juicy chicken.

This reminds me of that phrase "position of blessing". God is please to reward us when we position ourselves to receive from Him - - that is when we obey His command. Sometimes, it takes God to repeat the command again and again before we actually execute it and so delay our reward. And yeah, we too get impatient at times. We sometimes forget the principle of obedience and think that we can skip the process of attending to His word and doing it. I believe...

aftershock

Most of the time i am a deep sleeper. I can remember mornings when my mom would tell me of an earthquake that just happened and i have no clue because i didn't feel it. I would be lucky to feel the aftershock if it happens around 9am coz i like sleeping in until that time (when i don't have to go to work) :-)

Anyways, aftershock reminds me of this year's fasting. Keith and I kinda did our own fasting time-frame because we missed the start of it in the church where we're going. For 7 days i almost feel like nothing is coming through or something is happening. I felt like i missed another earthquake. Not until tonight.

For 7 days i believe God is up to something so big and great, it's overwhelming but its not noticeable (at least by human feelings). Go figure! faith is not about feelings. But today, the aftershock is so strong that i can't miss it anymore. I happen to have no solid things to share as of this moment, but something in me is crying out that this year will be a year of treme...

at life's center stage

Alisa composed this special song when she felt discouraged and lacking as a role model for the youth. She's a former member of ZOE girl. I believe every artist can easily relate to the lines and so do ordinary people. As we play our part at life's center stage, even as Christians, there are times we still feel not good enough and simply insecure. This song is a good reminder that it's not about us but about God. Life is about Him and not about our performance.

You can hear her song and even order her cd by going to this link...
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=111199110
---------

THE TRUTH IS by Alisa Childers

Smile for the cameras
Turn the lights on
Take the stage
Be brave
Have some brilliant words to say
Its time to turn it on

But today was a bad day
If they only knew what I’m really made of
They would walk away
Oh but still they say, “I’m a hero”

But the truth is
I’m afraid to be alone
and the truth is I’m not always that strong
That’s why if I make this abo...

Reach a Student, Reach a Family

It was 1999 in UP Los Banos when i was first introduced to Christianity but it was 2000 when i accepted it in my heart. I was a sophomore college then. I met students who was born in a Christian family and students who want their family to be one. I belong to the second one.

I was the first Christian, at least in my immediate family. I've always envied those students who testified about their family embracing the same Christian faith. They usually testify after prayer and fasting week so, i did pray and fast for my family too. But, the answer didn't come very quickly.

It was 2005 when i joined a short-term missions trip in China that my younger sister had an amazing revival in her faith. My younger brother shortly followed after that. So many things have happened from that point but still my parents are not that sold out to even go to church with us. Came 2006 my mom made a startling promise : "as soon as we get our own place/home we will go to church together". We were able to move i...

my first beef siomai

One thing i'm enjoying here is that i can cook and eat whenever i want, meaning there's really no set time for eating especially lunch. However, i usually eat by myself for lunch. Why? because everyone has a different food and timing preference. Though i have to say, so far they liked all the dishes that i cooked for them (hehe... ask my husband). Going back, it is boring to eat alone that's why i keep on thinking new dishes i can try to cook. A new dish always mean having fun while killing some time.

Today, i made my first beef siomai. I literally started from scratch; from wrapper to sauce. It was laborious but rewarding. My piece of advice, never be afraid of experimenting in the kitchen!

our airport story

I battled whether i should post this or not. My husband said, "why not".

July 2, 2007
Our resources were slowly running out. We just picked up our rings from Tita Betty and it leave us just enough (or so we thought) to fly to US. We took long walks and rode in MRT instead of taking a cab. We thought we don't have much choice anyways or else we'll spend the money that's set aside for our teminal fee. But, we really need to get a taxi to bring us to the airport and its 3 a.m. so we're paying more than usual. With our efforts combined we were able to save money for the taxi ride. Everything is set for tomorrow's flight.

July 3, 2007
We hardly slept due to another concern which is outside the story. So, we prayed while waiting for the taxi and today i realized how important that prayer was. We headed to the airport and felt ready for the long flights ahead until we learned that we need another P1000+ for my travel tax. Travel tax?!

Our heads started to hurt; we don't have that extra money ...

abt women, by women

"A Woman" : This is written in the Hebrew Talmud, the book where all of the sayings and preaching of Rabbis are conserved over time.

It says:
"Be very careful if you make a woman cry, because God counts her tears.
The woman came out of a man's rib. Not from his feet to be walked on.
Not from his head to be superior, but from the side to be equal.
Under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved."

Don’t complain about what you don’t have.
yielding my right of way

Keith and i have been talking about our life's theme for several times already and we always find it not too easy to verbalize. But, recently we have finally found a good enough answer that i decided to post it here.

I call my life's theme: yielding my right of way.

I don't know how to drive yet and i just finished reading the chapter 8 of TN driver's manual which is about the road signs. I learned that yield is such an important sign but since i am not an expert yet, let me quote this definition from wikipedia:

In road transport, a yield (Canada, Ireland, and the United States) or give way (United Kingdom and many Commonwealth countries) traffic sign indicates that a driver of a vehicle must slow down and prepare to stop if necessary (usually while merging into traffic on another road) but does not need to stop if there is no reason to. A driver who has actually stopped in this situation is said to have yielded the right-of-way to through traffic on the main road.

Hmm. so why do i say it ...
